Praia do Camilo is one of the most iconic beaches in Lagos, known for its golden cliffs, turquoise water and dramatic coastline. It’s a small, protected cove that feels intimate and cinematic — but it requires good timing.
For family photoshoots here, sunrise is essential. The beach fills quickly during the day, and by sunset, the light disappears behind the cliffs long before actual sunset time. When planned properly, though, Camilo offers one of the most unique backdrops in the Algarve.
This location works beautifully not only for families, but also for couples and surprise proposals looking for something striking yet natural.
WHY PRAIA DO CAMILO WORKS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Golden Sunrise Light
The sun rises directly from the ocean, creating clean, soft light in the early morning. This is when the beach feels calm and almost private.
Sheltered from Wind
Unlike many west coast beaches, Camilo is protected by cliffs, which helps create a more comfortable experience for families with children.
Dramatic Cliff Textures
Layered rock formations and warm tones add depth and character without overpowering the people in the frame.
Small and Exclusive Feel
Because the beach is compact, it feels intimate — ideal for emotional moments, whether it’s a family session or a proposal.
IMPORTANT PRACTICAL NOTICE
Early Start is Necessary: This location requires commitment. We usually start shortly after sunrise to avoid crowds and secure clean compositions.
Stair Access: There is a long wooden staircase to reach the beach. I always plan timing so the experience remains relaxed and unhurried.
Tide Matters: Low tide is strongly recommended. It gives us more usable sand and safer movement, especially with children.
Not Ideal at Sunset: The cliffs block direct sunlight well before sunset, and the beach becomes very busy. For this reason, I do not recommend evening sessions here.
HOW A SESSION HERE FEEL
Sessions at Camilo are calm but intentional. We move naturally — walking along the shoreline, exploring rock textures, letting children interact freely. I guide gently without stiff posing so the images remain authentic and timeless.
Because we work early, the atmosphere feels quiet and focused — something that makes a big difference in the final result.
