What to Wear for Your Algarve Beach Photoshoot

A simple and practical guide — for couples and families.

A simple neutral palette always works beautifully at the beach. Porto de Mòs, Lagos.

Choosing outfits shouldn’t be stressful.

After photographing many couples and families across Sagres, Lagos, Marinha, and the west coast, I’ve learned exactly what works in real Algarve conditions — wind, sun, cliffs, sand, movement.

Here are the essentials.

1. Wear something comfortable

If you can’t move, sit, play with your kids, or walk in the water, you’ll feel it during the session.
Choose flowy, breathable fabrics and clothes that let you enjoy the moment.

Comfort always photographs better than “perfect.”

2. Choose outfits that feel like you

Authenticity always looks better than trends.
If you feel confident in it, the photos will naturally look more relaxed and genuine.

3. Keep the palette simple (2–3 colours)

Soft and natural tones fit perfectly with Algarve golden-hour light:

  • white, beige, cream

  • sand, terracotta

  • light blue, sage

  • linen, cotton, soft textures

Avoid:

  • neon colors

  • heavy patterns

  • big logos

  • full black outfits at sunset

Couples: What to Wear

Flowy dresses and soft colors create timeless couple photos. Praia da Marinha.

Outfits that always work

  • flowy dress + linen shirt

  • white top + beige trousers

  • light trousers + open shirt

  • minimal accessories

  • barefoot for a natural look

Tips for couples

  • don’t matchcoordinate

  • same mood, different textures

  • avoid very dark outfits at golden hour

  • choose fabrics that move with the wind

Families: What to Wear

Start with one outfit (usually mum’s)

Pick 2–3 colours from her outfit → spread them across partner + kids.

Best colours for family sessions

  • neutral earth tones

  • soft pastels (light blue, blush, sage)

  • cream, beige, sand

Kids

  • keep it simple

  • no big prints

  • barefoot if possible

  • bring a spare outfit (always helpful)

Textures that look beautiful

  • linen

  • cotton

  • light knitwear

They photograph softly, they move in the breeze, and they match Algarve beaches perfectly.

Algarve Realities (that actually matter)

  • Wind is common → bring a clip or tie-back for long hair

  • Sunset changes fast → neutrals photograph best

  • Sand gets everywhere → bring a small towel

  • Waves can surprise you → great candid moments happen

In short:

Comfortable, natural, neutral tones — and the Algarve will do the rest.
